NCIA’s #IndustryEssentials webinar series is our premier digital educational series featuring a variety of interactive programs allowing us to provide you timely, engaging and essential education when you need it most.
This webinar is the capstone to a 3-part article series outlining how cannabis companies can leverage intellectual property laws to protect their technological developments and build value in their brands. The first article introduced the different types of patents and how they are used to protect different cannabis innovations. The second article explained how cannabis companies can use trademark and trade dress laws to develop a strong and recognizable brand. Finally, the third article discussed how to effectively protect (real) trade secrets and understand applications of copyright law.
This webinar will bring those articles all together to further explain how different types of cannabis companies can use the different types of IP most effectively. The panel of IP attorneys and experts will explain how to identify and evaluate potential inventions, why growers should track genetic information, why manufacturers should meticulously record processing details, and how brand-centric companies should approach trademark selection.
The panel will also discuss ways that the cannabis industry can avoid IP quagmires that have arisen in some other industries. They will present strategies for cannabis companies to use IP to support–and not stifle–innovation. Finally, the panel will answer any audience questions on cannabis IP.
