Cannabis businesses will face challenges trying to open in CT, experts say

Finding a location will likely be a challenge for those interested in starting one of Connecticut’s first recreational-use cannabis businesses, experts say.

Nationwide, federal law makes it harder for cannabis businesses to obtain loans to buy a property, and many landlords who have outstanding debt with large lending institutions are unable to rent to these types of businesses, industry experts said.

Several Connecticut municipalities have already banned recreational-use cannabis sales, while zoning regulations in communities that will allow the sale of the substance limit the possibilities to open a business.
