Licenced producers joined the program in part to assure stakeholders that the medical cannabis industry is serious about offering a verified, standardized cannabis treatment option
Cannabis companies () (OTCMKTS:HRVOF) and WeedMD Inc () (OTCMKTS:WDDMF) have hailed the successful completion of the first phase of a pilot program to verify and track medicinal cannabis with the help of Canada’s largest pharmacy, .
The program is being undertaken in conjunction with ’s () (OTCMKTS:TTTSF) StrainSecure platform, a blockchain-enabled technology that is designed to increase the transparency and validation of products within the medical cannabis industry.
StrainSecure’s technology collects plant testing data and performs genomic verification on the plants to be stored and tracked in a database.

Licenced producers and consumer packaged goods companies joined the program in an effort to assure stakeholders that the medical cannabis industry is serious about offering a verified, standardized cannabis treatment option to patients.
"Now that we have completed Phase 1 of the Pilot Project, medically-registered patients can have an increased level of confidence in the consumption of our Satipharm branded cannabis through Shoppers," said Grant Froese, Harvest One’s CEO.
The health and wellness company joined TruTrace’s master genome strain and clone registration program in February to verify its United Greeneries cannabis strains, one of the early adopters of StrainSecure.
Medical cannabis producer WeedMD saw 40 of its medical cannabis strains included as part of the first phase of the pilot program.
“WeedMD has long recognized the importance of strain validation,” said Keith Merker, CEO of WeedMD. “As health care practitioners look to prescribe, trust and better understand cannabis science, we’re proud to confirm that 40 WeedMD strains were used in the completion of this pilot project.”
The pilot program was first announced in June 2019 and is expected to be fully implemented by November 2019.
