Nearly three years after a worker died from marijuana dust at a cannabis production facility in Holyoke, the Cannabis Control Commission issued a bulletin requiring cultivators keep a closer eye on hazardous chemicals and improve protections for workers.
The bulletin advises growers to provide protective equipment, create local exhaust ventilation, follow OSHA guidelines, and limit workers’ exposure to cannabis dust and during the workday. The agency also doubled down on the requirement for licensees to have a “hazard communication program” to evaluate chemicals and share safety protocols with employees.
“Today’s bulletin is intended to bring increased awareness of an identified health risk in the marijuana industry and will support Commission and industry efforts to enhance safety standards across Massachusetts,” said acting executive director Debbie Hilton-Creek. [Read More @ The Boston Globe]
